Staunton Chessmen have become the standard of the world and are required in all National and International Tournaments
This is Tournament Edition Model # 1493 Walnut/Alabaster
The King measures 4" tall with a 1.75" diameter base while the pawns measure 2" tall with a 1.25" base.
All these highly detailed quality players are weighted and have black felt bottoms
Check out the marbling on the alabaster players, really looks outstanding
The board presents quite well and is of a laminate teak material. It measures 16" square with 1.75" square squares. The underneath part of the board also has a felt bottom
Some good chess sets with just the players alone can easily go for up to $5,000
I recently sold a chess set with really nice wooden players and received $650 for that set. Those players were pale in comparison to these players but the board was a bit nicer
As an investment, chess sets like this are really hard to find and will undoubtably continue to go up in value
On a side note, the 59 year old player's original cardboard box that the players rest in, is not in very good condition anymore which is unfortunate
So I think you'd probably want to find a more deserving storage container for these beautiful rare players, but it's still nice to have the original box
