Baker Newby LLP has an opening for a Legal Administrative Assistant in our growing Abbotsford office. The nature of this position requires completion of an LAA certification, and some litigation experience. The scope of duties includes, but are not limited to:
- Initial filing opening, and closing upon its completion;
- Paying invoices / requesting trust and general cheques;
- Updating file indexes / request lists;
- Processing incoming records and sending records to opposing counsel or clients;
- Canvassing Trial, Discovery and Mediation dates with opposing counsel;
- Standard supporting administrative processes such as filing, time entry, scanning and digital filing, photocopying and document/binder assembly;
- Reception coverage overflow (ie. on a daily basis, provide coverage for the primary Receptionist who needs to run a variety of errands for the Firm throughout the day.)
This position presents a potential encouraging environment for Litigation Legal Assistants who may be increasingly displaced by the reduction in motor vehicle litigation who are looking to expand their base of experience at an established full-service law firm.
This may also present an opportunity for past mature Legal Assistants who may have left the profession to raise a family, who wish to return to a lighter duty legal career.
