As a Shop Technician, you'll keep production moving by prepping and finishing doors/drawer fronts, supporting light carpentry/assembly, staying organized, and maintaining a clean, safe, high-performing shop. You'll work with water-based coatings and modern finishing equipment while hitting daily/weekly targets, without sacrificing quality.
Responsibilities
Prep & Finishing
Sand, clean, mask, and label parts for finishing
Mix/strain/apply water-based coatings (primer/topcoat) to spec
Run automated/assisted finishing equipment (basic setup, operation, and cleanup)
Handle touch-ups, minor repairs, and occasional color-matching
Small Carpentry & Assembly
Light cabinet box modifications, fillers, toe kicks, pull-out assemblies
Hardware prep (hinges/slides), drilling, and minor adjustments
Production Flow & Organization
Stage jobs with accurate counts/labels
Keep racks, drying areas, and the tool room organized (5S mindset)
Load/unload and inspect parts; flag defects early
Quality & Safety
Follow SOPs/checklists; inspect work at every stage
Maintain equipment (filters, guns, lines) and shop cleanliness
Work safely with PPE/ventilation and proper handling practices
Systems
Update job status/notes (e.g., Jobber/Google Sheets)
Support inventory counts; flag low stock on coatings/consumables
Qualifications
1 to 3 or more years in a wood shop, paint/finishing shop, millwork, or manufacturing environment (cabinet experience is a plus)
Hands-on experience with sanding, masking, spraying, and/or automated finishing
Detail-oriented, organized, and calm under deadline pressure
Able to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work with PPE
Water-based coating experience (or willingness to learn if you're coming from solvent-based)
Basic color-matching and spray gun/line maintenance experience
Forklift certification, First Aid, and/or WHMIS is preferred
CNC familiarity or interest (asset as we expand)
Schedule & Compensation
Employment type: Full-time employee (permanent)
Expected pay range: $22 to $30 per hour (CAD) (depending on experience)
Monday-Friday, daytime (some flexibility during peak weeks)
