This bike has been designed with a very low seat post, so that if a youth is going to use the bike, it can be ridden by a 6-year-old and continue to ride until they are in their teens, eliminating the need to buy a new bike every couple of years. This will never happen with stainless steel spokes.
The front suspension has Suntour Shocks, which are quality shock units that will provide years of trouble-free service. They are calibrated for a lighter person or a shorter adult. They really make a difference in the ride, both off-road or on any surface. Even if you only ride on the pavement, it will absorb any cracks in the pavement, resulting in a super comfortable ride. The Suntour shocks also have full rubber boots to protect them from water and dirt, preventing corrosion.
The 18-speed shifters are Shimano Micro shift shifters. These are quality units that will provide a lifetime of trouble-free shifting. They are twist shifters for safety, so your fingers never leave the handle grip to shift. The rear and front derailleurs are quality Shimano components, not Falcon, Power, or Sunrace components that are used in Department store bikes. Shimano Components will not go out of adjustment and require constant readjustment as many of the cheaper components will. At $79 a tune-up, this is a real saving.
The Norco also features a derailleur guard so that if the bike is dropped or ridden off-road the derailleur will be protected from breaking or bending. This is a very practical option, as if the bike is dropped and the derailleur is bumped or bent, it will go out of alignment and need a tune-up.
The Brakes are linear-pull V-brakes, that provide superior stopping in wet or dry conditions
