Louis Garneau is a retired competitive cyclist, artist, and businessman of French-Canadian descent. In 1978, Garneau was the Canadian champion in individual pursuit cycling. In 1983, he started designing and building quality bikes based on his expertise.
This bike has been designed with a very low seat post, so that if a youth is going to use the bike, it can be ridden by a 6-year-old and continue to ride until they are in their teens, eliminating the need to buy a new bike every couple of years. If it is a shorter woman, then the bike can be custom fit to accommodate her riding style.
One of the nicest features of the bike is the adjustable handlebar stem, which allows the handlebars to be raised or lowered about 5 inches. This allows the bike to be adjusted as the child grows. Almost all other aluminum children's bikes have a fixed handlebar height.
The 12-inch frame is made of aircraft aluminum and is extremely light yet very strong. Most Youth and shorter women bikes will be made of cheaper steel, not aluminum. One of the advantages of Aluminum in our climate is that it will never rust! The lighter frame also makes it much easier to pedal, as well as load and unload unto a bike rack if you transport. If you are a shorter woman you will appreciate the smaller frame as it will allow you to ride without having to stretch to reach the handlebars, and you will also be able to put your feet down easily.
The bike has 24-inch light aluminum wheels which make the bike very easy to pedal. Another advantage is the aluminum wheels will never rust.
The front suspension uses top-of-the line ZOOM shocks, which are quality shock units that will provide years of trouble-free service. They are calibrated for a lighter person. They really make a difference in the ride, both off-road and on pavement. Even if you only ride on the pavement, shocks will absorb any cracks in the road, resulting in a super comfortable ride.
The 21-speed shifters are Shimano Revoshift shifters. These are quality units that will provide a lifetime of trouble-free shifting. The twist shifters are the safest, as the bike can be shifted without the rider's fingers leaving the handgrips. They also have a much thicker gripping surface, making it easier for a small hand to make shifts.
The rear derailleur is a quality Shimano Tourney component, not Falcon, Power, or Sunrace components that are used in Department store bikes. Shimano Components will not go out of adjustment and require constant readjustment, as many of the cheaper components will. The bike will keep its tune and not require constant $79 tune-ups..
The Brakes are Aluminum linear-pull PROMAX V-brakes, that provide superior stopping in wet or dry conditions
