We've both retired pensioners and find that we're now at a time in our life's where we really need to start thinking about downsizing
Since we have limited space it makes sense to go through our stuff and make tough decisions on what we need to let go of.
So we've decided to part with this rather rare porcelain lion which was a decades old heirloom from my grandparents
You can see it in the background of a couple of the old black and white snap shots taken back in the early 1950's
Austrian Royal Belvedere Porcelain, is highly collectable, and this piece is believed to have been made in the early 1930's, which is now almost impossible to find anymore and quite valuable
My grandparents brought it here from Austria after WW2 which was later gifted it to my parents
This lion statuette with it's deep glossiness is really well crafted and really captures the majestic spirit of a lion.
It measures 18" long x 4" wide x 7" tall
There's an old minor crack on the right front leg, hardly visible so it's not 100% perfect but despite that, it presents amazingly well
I remember the day the damage occurred I was like 20 and a girl friend I had at the time was looking at it and accidently dropped it. She was so sorry and her knowing it was a family heirloom caused her to cry. My father later did a pretty good job repairing it and now although it's not perfect it's just barely noticeable
I'm 72 now so like over 50 years ago that happened
By the way the baby in the black and white pictures taken in 1955 was my sister as seen with my mother
I think a collector would absolutely love acquiring this highly impressive old historical lion figurine
