Salvador Dalí ( May 11,1904 to January 23, 1989) was a most famous Spanish surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship, and the striking and bizarre images in his work. In short he was among the most versatile and prolific artists of the 20th century.
A Second Before Awakening is a surrealist painting by Salvador Dalí. It was painted in 1944, and the woman in the painting, dreaming, is said to represent his wife, Gala. The painting is currently in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, in Madrid.
This, one of Dali's best-known works from the post-Second World War era, shows a reclining nude hovering above one of the flat rocks at Port Lligat that in turn floats upon the Mediterranean Sea.
In a chainlike succession of images, a pomegranate bursts open to release a giant red snapper that in turn disgorges two raging tigers, whose leaping forms were derived from a Ringling Bros, and Barnum-Bailey, circus poster. Closest to the gravity-defying female nude is a bayoneted rifle that is about to pierce her arm, while in the middle ground, near the horizon, an elephant carrying an obelisk on its back strides across the brilliant blue sea on stilted legs.
The Temptation of St. Anthony is a painting by Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. Painted in 1946, it is a precursor to the body of Dalí's work commonly known as the "classical period" or the "Dalí Renaissance"
